Celebrating Father & Son Milestone Birthdays

by Maureen
(Syracuse)

My husband will be turning 50 in September and my son 21. I would like to have one surprise party for them both. I am also trying to keep the cost down and plan for around 50 people. There will be a mix of friends and family and, of course, different age groups. The party will begin at 6:00pm.

Any suggestions for food or drink?

Hi Maureen!!

Sounds like a ton of fun to have them both together to celebrate! It's like a 71st birthday all together :) Why not use that as a theme!

For drinks, its less expensive for you to do a B.Y.O.B style for drinks. Of course, you could still supply a variety of pop and juice. Most people will not be bothered by having to bring their own alcohol – most people are fully aware of the cost involved as well as the variety of taste buds – especially which just a large age group.

For the food, use things that are easy to make beforehand so you are not slaving by a hot stove for days before. I know when we have large events with a variety of ages or people; we make a huge buffet with a variety of food. You can have thinks like meat platters, cheese plates, veggies and dip, spinach dip and pumpernickel bread. You could also have finger foods like wings, cheese sticks, garlic bread, nacho chips, and shrimp. You can make a big dish of pasta, salad, lasagna, or chilli. You could also have some sandwiches.

This will make it nice and easy to make beforehand, and cover the taste buds of many age groups.

I hope this helps, and have a great party. We would love to hear how it turns out!! Let us know! :)
